Tokyo Olympics: No medal yet India shines

India is at the 51st position in the Tokyo Olympics medal tally. Yet, Indian women shine at the Tokyo Olympics once again on Day 8.

Discus thrower, Kamalpreet Kaur became the first Indian woman to touch 64 metres at the Olympics. She reached the finals of discus throwing. P.V Sindhu entered the women singles semifinals in badminton. Indian hockey player, Vandana Katariya scored three hattricks at the Olympics, with chances to enter the semifinals.

Archer Deepika Kumari lost her chances of a medal after losing to An San in the quarter-finals. On the other hand, Lovlina Borgohain assured India of its second medal as she entered the boxing semifinals. Moreover, India’s Men’s Hockey Team defeated Japan by a score of 5-3.

US Gymnast withdraws from the Olympic Games

Simone Biles pulled out of two Olympic games after winning a silver medal in the Women’s team event. She withdrew from the Olympics, citing mental health issues.

Overall medal tally at the Tokyo Olympics

China is currently leading the tally with 43 medals. Japan and the US are in second and third place respectively.
