Tokyo Olympics: Ravi Dahiya wins silver in wrestling

Tokyo Olympics

Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya won a silver medal on Thursday in 57 kg freestyle wrestling. Adding to the winning streak, Bajrang Punia also reached the semifinals of men’s 65kg freestyle wrestling.

Golfer Aditi Ashok is also currently ranked at second place after her stellar (amazing) performance in round 3 of the women’s stroke play.

As India celebrated the win of the silver medal in wrestling, we faced a few losses as well. The Indian women’s hockey team also lost the chance to win the bronze medal to Great Britain. However, they won a lot of hearts with their amazing attempt and received a lot of appreciation.

Moreover, wrestler Deepak Punia lost out on a bronze medal as he lost to Myles Nazim Amine of San Marino. Another wrestler, Seema Bisla, also lost in the round of 16 in women’s 50kg freestyle to Tunisia’s Sarra Hamdi.

World Medal Tally

China continues to rule the Olympics medal tally with 34 gold medals. The US is in second place with 30 gold medals and Japan is in third place with 22 gold medals. India is at 65th position on the medal tally chart at 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals.

Nigara Shaheen made her debut for Judo at the Olympics on 28 July 2021 against Maria Portela of Brazil. She is a member of the Refugee Olympic Team.

What is the Refugee Olympic Team?

This is a team of athletes who are refugees from different countries. The team was created first during the 2016 Olympic Games as “a symbol of hope for all refugees in the world”.
