The 17-day Tokyo Olympics in Japan came to an end on 8 August 2021. After a lot of concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic and the delay of one year, the Games went off successfully.

Overall, India won 7 medals at the Tokyo Olympics. This is India’s best performance at the Olympics. Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian gold medallist in athletics. He also became only the second Indian individual gold medallist after Abhinav Bindra in 2016.

With their excellent performance at the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian men’s hockey team is now ranked third in the world. The Indian women’s hockey team also reached the eighth rank in the world.

The United States topped the medal tally chart with 39 gold medals while China grabbed second place with 38 gold medals. Japan finished in third position with 27 gold medals; this is its best performance at the Olympics. India also finished at the 48th position.
