Weather: Floods take a toll in Uttar Pradesh

Recently, excessive rainfall has affected many parts of the country including Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai (Maharashtra), West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh (UP) experienced heavy rainfall recently. It affected 21 districts of UP including Hamirpur , Bundelkhand and Jalaun districts. Authorities said that over 357 villages in Uttar Pradesh are affected by floods.

The water level of the Ganges river also rose due to heavy rainfall. In Varanasi, the water level of the Ganga was recorded at 63.820 metres on Sunday. The four major ghats in Varanasi have gone completely underwater. The heavy rainfall has affected both agriculture and people. Moreover, other rivers such as the Yamuna, Betwa and Sharda are also flowing above the danger level. The NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and SDRF ( State Disaster Response Force) teams are working to rescue many people. Officials have also assigned medical teams to the flood affected regions.

The death toll in Madhya Pradesh has risen due to floods. Also, Maharastra experienced a landslide due to the heavy rainfall and 6 houses were destroyed but thankfully, no one died.

Floods are taking a toll on other places around the world too. Indonesia experienced landslides due to excessive rainfall. Meanwhile, in Mexico, many people have become homeless due to the floods. Experts have predicted that excessive rainfall could continue in the coming days.
