COVID-19: New Zealand goes into lockdown over single case

Recommended for Middle Grades

India reported a single-day rise of 35,178 new COVID-19 cases today. This is nearly 40% higher than yesterday. Active cases have fallen to about 3.6 lakh – the lowest in 148 days.

The recovery rate is currently at 97.52%, the highest since March 2020. Kerala continues the report the highest number of cases daily.

Till now, 56.06 crore vaccine doses have been administered (given) across India. However, at the current rate, only 36% of India’s adult population will be fully vaccinated by the end of the year. The government had earlier planned for at least 60% to be vaccinated.

The government has imposed restrictions on the export of Covid rapid antigen testing kits as it prepares for the third wave.

Punjab has made it mandatory for all entrants into the state to have a negative COVID-19 report or be fully vaccinated. Moreover, West Bengal has also extended restrictions till 31 August. However, Assam has relaxed curfew timings and allowed inter-district movement of passengers.

The situation around the world

New Zealand has announced a nationwide lockdown after it confirmed the first locally transmitted COVID-19 since February this year. They are afraid that it is the contagious Delta variant. And so, they want to act quickly before it spreads.

As the Paralympics are about to begin, Japan has expanded a coronavirus state of emergency to seven more regions.

In a new attempt to fight COVID-19 misinformation, Twitter will begin testing a new reporting feature for users. Through this, users will be able to report misinformation. This is similar to the procedure they can follow to report harassment or other harmful content.
