COVID-19: India administers over 1 crore vaccine doses in 1 day

India reported 46,759 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours. This is the most in nearly two months. Out of those, Kerala reported the highest number of cases.

As per the Union Health Ministry, India administered more than one crore COVID-19 vaccine doses on Friday. This is the highest-ever administered on a single day. According to the CoWIN portal, over 62.29 crore vaccine doses have been given in India till now.

As the situation seems to be improving in Delhi, the Delhi government has decided to open schools in the city from 1 September.

A new study says that the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus doubles the risk of hospitalisation compared to the Alpha variant, which was common before. The Delta variant is the most common in the world currently.

Worldwide

COVID-19 cases worldwide have crossed the 200-million mark. Moreover, cases are rising in about one-third of the world’s countries.

A Paralympic triathlon athlete from Spain named Susana Rodriguez won gold at the Tokyo Paralympics. Rodriguez is a blind person and also a doctor and helped fight the COVID-19 pandemic in her country.
