6-year-old Chennai boy sets world cycling record

Recommended for Foundational Grades

A 6-year-old boy named Rian Kumar from Chennai, Tamil Nadu has set a world cycling record. He has cycled 100 kilometres non-stop in record time.

The World Book of Records has recognised him for being the “fastest and youngest to perform non-stop distance cycling of 108.09 km in 5 hours, 17 minutes and 6 seconds”.

Rian is a class 2 student and his parents are officers in the Indian Navy. He is popular among people who participate in cycle races in Chennai. And he has many “fans” who admire his enthusiasm and skill.

It seems, what Rian likes the most about cycling is speed. He says he practises cycling three days a week and also trains on other days too. It seems, even on TV, he doesn’t watch cartoons but global cycling network on YouTube.

Future dreams

Rian says that someday, he hopes to participate in the prestigious (respected) 200-km Brevets de Randonneurs (BRM) cycle race. Moreover, it is also his dream to participate in Tour De France.

What is Tour de France?

The Tour de France is a famous men’s bicycle race primarily held in France every year. It also occasionally passes through nearby countries. The race happens over 23 days.

The world cycling record breaker says “Practice. If you practice and work hard, you can do whatever you like”.
