Assam flood situation improves slowly

We read about the flood situation Assam. This is due to heavy rains over the last few weeks. While the situation has slightly improved, many people and animals have been affected.
The situation continues to improve as the water level of the river Brahmaputra and its major tributaries have gone down.
What is a tributary?
A tributary is a small river that flows into a larger river.
According to the officials, floodwaters affected about 1.8 lakh people. Twelve districts of the state, including Barpeta, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Golaghat, Kamrup Rural and Kamrup Metro, are especially affected. Golaghat is the worst affected followed by Morigaon. More than 700 people are also staying in 14 relief camps set up by the authorities in four districts of the state.
Moreover, the floodwaters damaged crops, roads and bridges too.
Kaziranga National Park
Assam’s Kaziranga National Park was also affected by the floods. Authorities say that about 24 wild animals have died due to floods and other reasons. They include a rhino, three hog deer, one wild buffalo, and one swamp deer.
Thankfully, even the flood situation in the national park has gradually improved. However, at least 30% of areas of the park are still underwater. Officials continue to rescue stranded animals.
