2021 T20 World Cup: New Zealand wins first semi-final

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

The final of the ICC 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup is almost here. And New Zealand has made it there.

On 10 November, New Zealand played the first semi-final against England at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.  New Zealand won the match by 5 wickets, entering the final.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first. England scored 166 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs. This was not enough to see them through as New Zealand was able to chase the total.

England’s Moeen Ali scored 51 runs, while New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell scored 72 runs. Mitchell also won Player of the Match.

This is New Zealand’s first time in the final of the T20 World Cup. England has won once (in 2010).

The second semi-final of the T20 World Cup

Today, 11 November, Pakistan will face Australia in the second semi-final at the Dubai International Stadium in the UAE. Pakistan was the top team in group 2 while Australia was the 2nd team from group 1.

Pakistan had won the tournament once (in 2009) and were runners up in 2007. Australia has never won but were the runners up in 2010.

You can watch the match from 7:30 pm IST on Star Sports or the Hotstar app.
