401st Prakash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur ji

On the occasion of the 400th Prakash Purab (birth anniversary)  of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation.

Who was Guru Tegh Bahadur?

Guru Tegh Bahadur was the ninth of ten Gurus who founded the Sikh religion and was the leader of Sikhs from 1665 to 1675.

Guru Tegh Bahadur was born to Guru Hargobind Singh in Amritsar, Punjab in 1621.

401st Prakash Purab

On the occasion of 401st Prakash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur, a programme is organized at the Red Fort. Mr Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the occasion. He tweeted about the programme on Twitter and also announced that a coin and postage stamp will be released on the holy occasion. The program is organized in collaboration with Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

400 Sikh musicians will conduct Shabad kirtan.  It is the musical recitation of Guru Granth Sahib.

The 401st Prakash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur is celebrated as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. There will be a laser light show. An exhibition will also be conducted on the life and times of Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh and it will be followed by langar. Prime Minister will address the nation with a message of harmony and peace.

Also, the Red fort is chosen as the venue for the programme because it is the place where Aurangzeb, the Mughal ruler, gave orders for the execution of Guru Tegh Bahadur in 1675.
