Animals laugh like humans!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Animals laugh like humans, says research. What do you do when you hear a funny joke? You laugh! But what about animals, like your pet dog? Do animals laugh too? Well, according to science, yes they can.

Fun facts about “Animals laugh like humans!”

  • A new study says that 65 animals can also “laugh”.
  • This includes dogs, dolphins, monkeys, foxes, killer whales and seals.
  • It even includes a type of parrot.
  • It’s not known for sure if they have a sense of humour like humans do.
  • But here “laughter” means the unique sounds we produce when we find something funny.
  • So, these 65 animals can produce sounds of “laughter” while playing.
  • Scientists had earlier noticed that some animals make “noises” (which seem like laughter) when they are playing with each other.
  • So, they decided to experiment more on this.
  • They found that such sounds occurred only when the animals were playing with each other.
  • The sounds include panting chuckles, lip-smacking and grunts as well as squeals.
  • However, this kind of playful laughter was not found in fish or reptiles.
  • So, yes, maybe your dog cannot laugh at your jokes but it could laugh while playing with its friends.
