Assam, West Bengal to start special Vistadome trains

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

From Saturday, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will introduce Vistadome trains in Assam and West Bengal.

These trains will be on two popular routes – Guwahati-New Haflong in Assam and New Jalpaiguri-Alipurduar Junction in West Bengal. These are the first Vistadome train services for northeast India.

What are Vistadome trains?

Vistadome trains have coaches that provide a 360 degree view of the open sky, mountains, hills and lush green forests. So, people sitting in the trains can see the whole scenery.

The Vistadome coaches have glass windows and all-glass roofs. They also have observation lounges for site seeing. The seats can also be rotated for convenience. Moreover, the coaches have digital entertainment systems and Wi-Fi facilities.

The train services will travel twice a week – Wednesday and Saturday. The ticket will cost ₹1,150 per person.

Tourism

Officials said that Vistadome trains are meant to help tourists experience scenic beauty. And to display the cultural heritage of the region during the journey.
