Bull-run festival returns with a bang!

Recommended for Secondary Grades

Bull-run festival in the Spanish city of Pamplona returns after nearly two years. The festival had been postponed owing to the coronavirus outbreak. The festival is held in honour of Saint Fermin, who was the city’s first priest.

The Festival of Saint Fermin takes place every year in Pamplona, Spain. It begins at noon on July 6 and continues until midnight on July 14.

Fun facts about the Festival of San Fermin!

  • The traditional clothing consists of white pants and a shirt with a red neckerchief.
  • The bull runs are the most exciting part of the nine-day festival. During these events, thousands of people rush to try their best to stay out of the path of six charging bulls as they make their way to the bullring in the centre of the city.
  • People watch the race from balconies and the wooden barricades that have been placed up all along the track.
  • The remaining hours of each day are reserved for cultural activities like eating, drinking, dancing, and entertainment.
  • During this year’s festival, hundreds of activists dressed up as dinosaurs and raced the bull-run route while holding posters reading “Bullfighting is Prehistoric.”
