Recommended for Middle Grades

Have you ever read books by Charles Dickens?  He is one of the most famous English writers of all time.

Dickens was born to a poor family in Portsmouth, England. He finished school at the age of 15 and started working. During this period, he wrote stories and articles for magazines and newspapers. His first novel, The Pickwick Papers, was published in 1837.

Dickens had a near-photographic memory. This means he remembered people and events from his childhood very clearly, which he used in his writing. Many of his novels also focus on problems that society faced at that time.

What are some famous novels by Charles Dickens?

One of Charles Dickens’ most famous novels is Oliver Twist. This novel tells the story of a poor, orphan boy living in London. Another famous Dickens novel is A Christmas Carol, which became one of the most popular Christmas stories of all time.
