Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) bans a few Chinese apps
You kids love mobile apps. Gaming apps and picture editing apps are popular among children. Though they are created for enjoyment, they can be harmful as well.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has imposed a ban on 54 Chinese apps. The Ministry said that these apps pose a threat to the country’s security. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology(MIETY) will issue a notice about this.
What are the reasons for the ban?
The users are required to provide their personal data on many of these apps. The servers of these apps are located outside India. Ministry of Home Affairs has given the reasons that:
Personal data of the users can be hacked causing harm to the users. In addition, the transfer of information to outside servers poses a threat to the country’s security.
As you are aware that India has overall security concerns with China. We have seen many patterns in the last few years, where India believes that user data on servers in China could lead to further security issues.
Which of the Apps got banned?
The apps that got banned are Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera, Music Player, Music Plus, Volume Booster, Video Players, Viva Video Editor, Nice Video Baidu, AppLock and Astracraft and many others.
Earlier, in June 2021, India had taken the step to ban 59 Chinese Apps including TikTok, UC Browser, WeChat. On another occasion, 118 apps were also banned due to security concerns.
During current times, when thousands of Apps launch every day, we have to exercise caution in the Apps we download. Some apps could hack your devices. Some could pose a risk with your personal information. Therefore, you must be careful while using any app on your phone or laptop device. You should research well, look at the user reviews and consult parents before downloading the apps.
