COVID-19: More than 24 crore vaccines administered

COVID-19: More than 24 crore vaccines administeredIndia reported 84,332 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours. This is the lowest in 70 days.

The centre said about 24 crore vaccine doses have been given in India till now. However, a few states, including Tamil Nadu have very low rates of vaccination.

Karnataka has extended its lockdown till 21 June. However, Delhi and Maharashtra are opening up slowly.

In an interview with NDTV, Dr Anthony Fauci said that extending the gap between vaccine doses could increase the risk of infection by Covid variants. Dr Fauci is the medical advisor to the President of the United States. This comes after the Indian government extended the gap between doses of the Covishield vaccine last month.

UK and Indian scientists have developed a sensor that can detect the COVID-19 virus in wastewater. It is a low-cost sensor, which can be used in poorer countries.

Leaders of the G7 countries have agreed to provide at least one billion COVID-19 doses to the world. This will be done through sharing and financing schemes. The latest G7 summit is currently underway in Britain.

As cases decrease, Spain, France, Denmark and Greece are starting to welcome tourists.

South America's football tournament Copa America is held once every 4 years. This year it will be held from 13 June in Brazil. The tournament is going ahead despite Brazil facing a huge COVID-19 crisis.
