COVID-19 Update: Stealth Omicron!
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
Stealth Omicron is a variant of the coronavirus that has been spreading quietly around the world. It is causing new outbreaks in Europe, the United States, and parts of Asia. This virus came from Omicron, which caused the third wave in India and all over the world, but it came from Omicron itself.
Stealth Omicron or BA.2!
Stealth Omicron is a type of Omicron that is also thought to be a big factor in the rise in covid cases in China, South Korea, and Europe. The scientific name for the variant is BA.2 Omicron variant.
As per experts, the ‘Stealth Omicron’ seems to be infectious and challenging to detect in tests in comparison to other variants. Moreover, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that this variant affects the nose, nasal cavity, and pharynx (the soft area at the top of the throat).
Scientists and Experts’ thoughts on Stealth Omicron!
Leading scientists and experts feel that the stealth Omicron variant could give rise to new challenges because it’s harder to find than the other variants. Furthermore, as it’s harder to find, it could spread faster and with more intensity than the other variants.
What is long COVID?
Long COVID is used to describe symptoms that last for a few weeks or months after having COVID-19.
A few notable updates on ‘stealth’ Omicron from across the world:
- Hong Kong, which has been the centre of new Covid cases, has seen a steady drop in new cases.
- In China, the number of people who have symptoms has gone down, but the number of people who don’t have symptoms is going up a lot. It looks like the Beijing Auto Show won’t happen this year. Shanghai is also reporting new cases every day.
- Europe has seen a rise in cases of coronavirus. Countries like Germany, the UK, and France are also experiencing a rise in cases.
- Germans who are over 60 are being told to take the second booster dose of Covid.
- After a race against time to find a vaccine for the new coronavirus, researchers around the world are now working on “long Covid.” This is a new type of vaccine.
- New treatment for people with “long Covid” is being looked at by scientists in the UK and the US, as well as big pharmaceutical companies, who want to try it.
