IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship 2022

The IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship 2022 is being held in Istanbul, Turkey. The tournament began on 8th May and will continue to 20th May 2022.

The medallists of the 2022 championships will share the prize fund of $2.4 million, while the top prizes were aligned with the winners of the IBA World Boxing Championships 2021.

A team of 12 boxers from India including Lovlina Borgohain will compete in IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship in Istanbul, Turkey.

India at the Women’s World Boxing Championship

Indian women boxers Nitu (48kg) and Manisha (57kg) have entered the quarterfinals of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship.

Nitu is competing for the first time in the event and she won over Spain’s Marta Lopez Del Arbol with a score of 5-0. She competed in the 48Kg category. Manisha won over Svetlana Staneva of Bulgaria with a score of 4-1. She entered the quarterfinals in the featherweight category. Pooja Rani, the Asian champion also entered the quarterfinals on Friday.

On the other hand, the journey for Lovlina Borgahain came to an early end as she lost the game in the pre-quarterfinals. This was Lovlina’s first international tournament.

World Boxing Championship Finals

India’s Nikhat Zareen, Manisha and Parveen entered the semifinal round with their wins, earlier this week.  Therefore, India confirms three medals at the World Boxing Championship. The other Indian boxers like Nitu, Pooja Rani and Manisha marked an end to their journey as they face defeats in the quarterfinals.
