India hosts first-ever 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue with Australia

Today, India is hosting its first-ever 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue with Australia in New Delhi.

In this meeting, Australia’s Foreign Minister Marise Payne and Defence Minister Peter Dutton will meet India’s with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The Australian ministers are also calling on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence, as part of the visit.

The relationship between India and Australia is doing better than ever. Both India and Australia are also part of the Quad Summit with the US and Japan. And so, this 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue will hope to add to the growing relationship.

Topics of discussion

At the meet, the ministers will various issues including economic security, cyber, climate, critical technology and supply chains. The two countries are working towards a trade agreement to push trade ties. Current trending topics, such as the situation in Afghanistan will also likely be a topic.

Australia’s Foreign Minister Marise Payne has said Australia will contribute 10 million dollars to India’s initiative towards disaster-resilient infrastructure. She also hopes that Indian students will be able to come back to Australia as soon as possible. Moreover, she praised India for being a global manufacturing hub and an emerging technological superpower.
