India wins 3 medals at World Athletics U20 Championships

The 2021 World Athletics U20 Championships was held from 17 to 22 August 2021 at the Kasarani Sports Complex in Nairobi, Kenya.

On the last day (22 August), India’s Shaili Singh won a silver medal in long jump. The 17-year-old registered a best attempt of 6.59 metres but missed out on gold by just 1 cm. Sweden’s Maja Askag won gold while Ukraine’s Mariia Horielova took the bronze medal.

This was India’s second silver medal and third overall at this year’s edition of the World Athletics U20 Championships.

On Saturday, the day before, India also won bronze in the men’s 4x400m relay race. Moreover, Amit Khatri also won the silver medal in the 10000m race walk event.

Other Indian athletes at the World Athletics U20 Championships

While he did not win a medal, India’s Donald Makimairaj performed well, finishing fourth in men’s triple jump. Ankita also finished 6th in women’s 5000m while the India women’s 4x400m relay team also finished fourth.
