India wins first match in T20 series vs New Zealand

India latest T20 series against New Zealand started on 17 November 2021. The teams will play three T20 Internationals followed by a two-match Test series.

For India, the series has started well as they beat New Zealand by five wickets in the first T20 match. The match was held at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan.  New Zealand batted first scoring 164 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Martin Guptill and Mark Chapman both scored half-centuries. India was able to chase down the target helped by Suryakumar Yadav’s 62 runs off 40 balls.

The T20 series is the first for newly-appointed India coach Rahul Dravid. And it is also the first series under new T20 captain Rohit Sharma. Former T20 captain Virat Kohli is taking a break from this T20 series. He will return as captain for the second test.

New Zealand also has a temporary T20 captain Tim Southee. Their full-time captain Kane Williamson is not playing in the T20 series.

Schedule

The second T20 match is on 19 November at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.  And the third is on 21 November at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After this, the two test matches will be held from 25 to 29 November and 3 to 7 December 2021, respectively.
