India’s important Southwest Monsoon season starts
Recommended for Middle Grades
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has officially declared that the Southwest Monsoon season has started.
This year, it started in Kerala on 3 June. It usually starts on 1 June but this year it was a little delayed. In the Indian subcontinent, the period from June to September is referred to as the ‘Southwest Monsoon‘ period. It is the main rainy season and is very important for agriculture.
The IMD has predicted that overall, rainfall during this year’s monsoon should be normal. Both 2019 and 2020 were higher than normal. However, this will be not equal for all parts of the country. Some parts may face drought (water shortage) while others will see flooding.
While the rainy season is enjoyable, many diseases can emerge during this time. So, you read about keeping yourself healthy during the monsoon season here.
