International Day of the Unborn Child, March 25

Recommended for Secondary Grades

The International Day of the Unborn Child is marked every year on March 25th. As a day, to recognise the importance of human life, decency, and the developing child yet to be born.

Saint John Paul II and a kind thought!

Every year, on March 25, the International Day of the Unborn Child is a time to remember the lives of unborn babies. It’s also a time to oppose abortion. It was set up by the priest (Saint John Paul II). On this day, the holy saint thought it was a good thing for people to think about life. He thought that spreading a culture of life would help people treat each other with respect in every situation.

Significance of International Day of the Unborn Child!

As per experts, more than half of the births that end in abortion are not planned. Also, the abortions that are done are not safe. Thereby, it could have an effect on women’s physical and mental health for a long time.

In addition, the laws about abortions differ from country to country. Some countries don’t allow abortion at all, while others let it happen with certain rules. So, these restrictions on abortions have often led to women having unsafe abortions to get rid of unwanted pregnancies. It is very dangerous for both the mother and her child to do these things.

Effects on mental health!

A lot of people decide to abort a child after a lot of thought. Because of a lot of different reasons, someone might choose to abort their child. This may be because of an unplanned pregnancy, financial reasons, social reasons, health, relationship pressure, outside stressful situations, and more.

So, this can cause a wide range of emotions, from relief and happiness to grief, loss, anger, and shame. It is important to know that everyone reacts and experiences things differently. There is no one way to deal with or heal.

The way forward!

  • People should be taught not to discriminate against people because of their gender identity. They should also be made aware of the need for safe pregnancies and the ways to control teen pregnancies.
  • People should be able to get accurate information about women’s health. Women who are married need a safe, effective, affordable, and acceptable method of birth control that they can use on their own.
  • In order for women to have children, they must have access to services that can help them have a healthy pregnancy, a safe delivery, and healthy babies so that they don’t need to have an abortion at all.
