- This town’s cheese is very famous. So, because of that, you can find a large number of cows. These adorable cows are an important part of the village.
- In fact, in August-September, there is a ceremonial cow procession where the cows are dressed up in traditional costumes and flowers.
- Appenzell is a car-free village. You have to walk if you want to explore its lovely little painted shops and homes.

- Some places to visit in Appenzell include the church, the town hall, the village centre and the Appenzell Museum.
- Another attraction is an old hut that is built in a cliff below the Ebenalp mountain peak. It is where the Berggasthaus Aescher guesthouse is located.
- There are also many hiking and trekking trails that lead to the Alpstein mountain range.
