Legislative Assembly Elections: First phase update

Legislative Assembly Elections begin.

 Legislative Assembly Elections are scheduled to be held from 10 February to 7th March 2022. The elections will be held in seven phases to elect all 690 candidates of the Legislative Assembly. The elections will be held in five states of Goa, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand. 

What is Legislative Assembly?

Legislative Assembly is a judicial body in the states and union territories of India.

Out of 690 candidates overall, 403 candidates are of Uttar Pradesh. The remaining candidates are divided amongst the other four states.

Rules by Election Commission

 The Election Commission of India(EC) has also issued safety protocols for the upcoming elections: 

  1. All the election officials should be double vaccinated. 
  2. Polling booths should be fully sanitized. 
  3. Polling time to be increased by one hour in all 5 states. 
  4. No victory procession will be allowed after results are declared. 
  5. Strict actions will be taken if the rules are not followed. 

First Phase of Assembly Elections

The first phase of elections has started in 11 districts from 10th February 2022. The election process will be closely noted. The first phase of elections will be observed for 58 assembly seats.

There are approximately 623 candidates standing in the first phase of the election. You will be astonished to know that around 2.27 crore people are eligible to vote in this phase. 

Percentage of votes 

As we report about the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the voting percentage for the first phase is calculated to be 58% in 11 districts until 3 PM. The voting process will close at 6 PM on 10th February 2022. 

Schedule for next phases

  1. The first phase of the election in Uttar Pradesh is complete. The other election phases will be conducted as per the following:
  • 14th February – Second phase
  • 20th February – Third phase
  • 23rd February – Fourth phase
  • 27th February – Fifth phase
  • 3rd March – Sixth phase
  • 7th March – Final phase

2. The election in Manipur will be held in two phases, each on 27th February and 3rd March.

3.  Goa will have only a single round of voting on 14th February.

4. The elections in Punjab and Uttarakhand will be held in one round on 14th February.
