Meet Hyundai’s new ‘walking car’ Tiger X-1

Hyundai’s new car
South Korean carmaker Hyundai has unveiled (shown) its latest Ultimate Mobility Vehicle (UMV), the TIGER X-1. TIGER stands for Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot. This robotic car is meant to carry cargo, not passengers.
Hyundai’s TIGER X-1 is designed for extreme environments, like the Moon or other planets. Over smooth roads, the car operates on four wheels like any other car. However, when the roads are rough, its legs extend, lift the car and rotate over obstacles, allowing it to “walk”.
For now, Hyundai’s TIGER X-1 is just a prototype (early, not final version). It is about the size of a small suitcase.
This new design is part of Hyundai’s latest push into using robotics to create better transport vehicles.
