NASA announces 10 trainees for future missions

Do you like to learn about space? Do you want to learn more about space, the moon and planets?

NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)  is ready with a new set of trainees for future space missions.

On Monday, 6th December, NASA announced its new class which includes 10 trainees. From amongst  12,000 applicants, NASA chose 10 astronauts. The field was open to US citizens who hold a master’s degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) field. Such a requirement was added for the first time. The selected candidates include a firefighter-turned-Harvard professor, a former member of the national cycle team, and a pilot who led the first-ever all-woman F-22 formation in combat.

These trainees will report to their duty in January at Johson Space Centre in Texas. The trainee astronauts will go through 2 years of training.

So, what’s special in the NASA training?

The age of the selected trainees differs in the age group of 32-45.

The trainees will learn how to operate the International Space Station(ISS). They will also be trained for spacewalks and robotic skills. They will also be trained to operate a T38 training jet.

The trainees would also learn Russian in order to communicate with their partners on the mission.

Once the trainees will complete their training, they will be assigned missions on ISS or deeper into space. The new missions also include NASA’s return to the Moon.
