NASA’s X-59 aircraft passes critical ground tests

NASA’S X-59 Quiet SuperSonic Technology (QueSST) aircraft is part of NASA’s flight demonstration project. Its aim is to collect data in shaping regulations for future commercial supersonic flights.

X-59 supersonic aircraft

Recently, NASA announced that the X-59 aircraft has arrived back at the Skunk Works facility, California after several ground tests.

What is supersonic aircraft?

A supersonic aircraft is an aircraft that is capable of supersonic flight. It means that the aircraft is able to fly faster than the speed of the sound.

X-59 supersonic aircraft is a concept predicted by computer models. According to the predictions, the new aircraft will produce a quieter sonic boom.

A sonic boom is created when an object travels through air faster than the speed of sound. NASA calls it sonic thump. This design will help in reducing the noise and potential damage created by the sonic boom.

According to NASA, if the tests on X-59 supersonic flight will succeed, the aircraft will take its first flight by 2024.
