The Sun
What’s the nearest star to us? Yes, you are right – the Sun. Human beings have admired and worshipped the Sun since ancient times. This year, you can even admire it up close while receiving your mail.
The US Postal Service is launching a series of Sun Science forever stamps. This 20-stamp set shows us images of the Sun and its common events like solar flares, sunspots and coronal loops.
These photos were captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). It is a NASA mission which has been observing the Sun since 2010 and has captured hundreds of millions of images of it.
The Sun has a great influence on our planet. It is also the only nearby star that humans are able to study in great detail.
