Pakistan launches its first official moon-sighting website

Pakistan launches its first official moon-sighting websitePakistan has launched its first ever official moon-sighting website:

www.pakmoonsighting.pk

The website was developed and launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Pakistan.

The website aims to clear confusion related to the start of Ramazan and Eid, as different regions in the world vary on the sighting of the moon.

Why has this website been launched?

It will give the exact dates of important Islamic occasions like Ramazan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha and Muharram.
 	The website features sections such as the Islamic calendar for the next five years.
 	It will give the day-to-day lunar calendar and the dates of the first day of every lunar month.
 	There are monthly visibility maps which show local sunset timings in major cities.

Going forward, they are working on to develop a similar mobile phone app.

About the Islamic Calendar

The Islamic lunar calendar, followed by Muslims is based on the phases of the moon.
 	It is slightly different from the Gregorian solar calendar, the regular one used by most of the world.
