Paris zoo unveils the mysterious “blob” which can solve problems without a brainSince the 19th of this month, visitors to the Paris Zoological Park in France have been able to view a very unusual organism on display. They call it the "blob".

What is the blob and why is it so unusual?

The blob officially known as physarum polycephalum (or "the many-headed slime"), is neither a plant, an animal or a fungus.
 	It is bright yellow in colour and can move without having limbs.
 	The blob has no mouth, no stomach, no eyes, yet it can detect food and digest it.
 	It doesn't have a brain but can solve problems. It can also heal itself when cut into two as well as split into different organisms and then fuse back together.
 	Unlike most creatures in nature, which are usually male or female, the blob has 720 genders.

What is its history?

The "blob" is believed to be around a billion years old. It was first discovered in May 1973, after a woman in Texas discovered a rapidly-expanding yellow blob growing in her backyard.
 	Then in 2016, a study showed that it had learning capabilities and could remember past experiences.

The Zoo's officials said that its favourite places are Acacia trees, oak bark and chestnut bark. The blob is usually found on forest floors in Europe. Scientists believe that it is almost immortal (cannot die).
