The tenure of President Ram Nath Kovind will come to an end on 24th July 2022. As per Article 62 of the Constitution, an election to fill the vacancy for the President is required to complete before the term ends.
Election Commission announces the schedule for Presidential Elections 2022
The Election Commission has announced the date of the 16th Presidential Election for electing the next President of India, 18th July.
Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar issued the schedule for Presidential Elections 2022.
- The notification of the election will be issued on 15th June 2022.
- The last date for nomination is scheduled for 29th June.
- The elections will be held on 18th July 2022.
- The counting of the votes will be done by 21st July 2022.
COVID-19 precautions and protocols will be maintained on election day.
Voting Process for Presidential Election 2022
According to the Constitution, the election is held along with the System of Proportional Representation and the voting is done through a secret ballot.
In the secret ballot system, the identity of the voter is kept anonymous.
- The voter has to mark their preferences against the names of the candidates.
- The voter can mark more than one preference while voting.
- Marking the first preference is compulsory while the other preferences are optional.
- Moreover, the Election Commission supplies a particular pen to the voters.
The members of Parliament will cast their votes at the Place of Poll in the Parliament House, New Delhi. Also, the members of the State Legislative Assembly will vote at the respective State Capital.
