New Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar set to take charge
Rajiv Kumar will take as Chief Election Commissioner on 15th May 2022. He succeeded Sushil Chandra as Election Commissioner.
What is Election Commission?
The Election Commission of India is a constitutional body under the ownership of Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. It was established to conduct and regulate elections in the country.
The Election Commissioner conducts and regulates the elections in the country.
Rajiv Kumar’s Life story
Rajiv Kumar is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1984 batch. He has worked in various ministries at the centre and state cadre of Bihar and Jharkhand.
He has a work experience across the social sector, environment, human resources and even banking. He has a very vast experience. he retired as finance secretary in February 2020. He has worked with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Ministry of Environment and in the education department.
He’s also an avid trekker and has a keen interest in Indian classical music. Now, he will serve as Chief Election Commissioner, starting 15th May.
