Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia wants to triple the number of tourists from other countries. The authorities in Riyadh are optimistic as COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted and hajj pilgrims will return.
In September 2019, the country began giving tourist visas. Tourism officials say that the young Saudi tourism industry was saved from collapse by a rise in domestic travel in 2020 and 2021. Now, the government is pushing and trying to get more people from other countries to visit.
Prince Mohammed is in charge of projects like NEOM and is fairly optimistic about this plan.
Key facts about Vision 2030 Reform Plan!
- By 2030, Saudi Arabia wants to have had 100 million tourists. This goal is an important part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s plan for change, called Vision 2030.
- The goal of the Reform Plan is to grow Saudi Arabia’s economy and make Riyadh and the rest of the country more open to the rest of the world.
- Officials think that a lot of tourists will go on religious trips, most of them to Mecca and Medina, which are the two holiest places in Islam.
- Also, rules that used to ban theatres and concerts with people of different genders have been loosened in recent years. But there are still some rules in place, like a ban on alcohol, which could hurt tourism.
- Officials hope that Saudi Arabia will change the way people travel around the world. By 2030, the places Saudi Arabia will have to offer will be very different.
