A laser paintbrush that can paint on metal

Recently, scientists at a university in Russia created a “laser paintbrush”. This paintbrush can be used to apply colour to metal canvases.

Using this new laser paintbrush, they recreated a tiny version of Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. This painting measures 3 by 2 centimetres. They completed it in about 4 minutes.

Who was Vincent van Gogh?

Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch painter who lived more than 1oo years ago. Today, he is one of the most popular and well-known artists in the world. His famous paintings include The Starry Night, Sunflowers and Wheatfield with Crows.

The new invention

This new invention allows artists to change or remove the colours on their paintings many times. The laser-painted artworks are also not affected by harsh weather or chemicals. They don’t need to be stored in any special manner either.

In the future, scientists hope to make the laser paintbrush smaller, like a pen. They also created some original paintings using the brush.
