Shaurya Chakra Awards 2022
The Shaurya Chakra is an Indian military award which is awarded for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice. It is awarded to military personnel or civilians. Shaurya Chakra award is the third peacetime gallantary award after Ashoka Chakra and Kirti Chakra.
The people who are eligible for the Shaurya Chakra are listed below:
- Men and women of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.
- Nursing officers of military nursing service.
- Civilian citizens and members of Police forces including Central Para-Military Forces and Railway Protection Force.
Awardees of Shaurya Chakra Awards 2022
President Ram Nath Kovind has conferred 13 Shaurya Chakra Awards. Six awards were conferred to armed forces personnel. Army chief General Manoj Pande received Param Vishisht Seva Medal. The awards were conferred at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The six army personnel who are conferred the Ashok Chakra posthumously include:
- Ashutosh Kumar of the 18th Battalion, the Madra Regiment
- Havildar Anil Kumar Tomar of 44th Battalion, the Rajput Regiment
- Jat Regiment’s Havildar Pinku Kumar
- Kashiray Bammanalli of the corps of engineers
- Naib Subedar Sreejith of the 17th Battalion of the Madras Regiment
- Maruprolu Jaswanth from the 17th Battalion of the Madras Regiment
The other awardees of the Shaurya Chakra 2022 are:
- Major Ravi Kumar Chaudhary from the Grenadiers
- Rajput’s Regiment’s Major Arun Kumar Pandey
- Sepoy Neeraj Ahlawat from Jat regiment
- Rifleman Mukesh Kumar and others
President Ram Nath Kovind also conferred 14 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, four Uttam Yudh Seva Medals and 24 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals for distinguished service of an exceptional order.
