Some people are afraid of technology
Recommended for Middle Grades
Do you think that technology is good for us? Technology means devices like phones and computers. While technology can make life easier for us, it brings about change. While many of us are fine with that, some people don’t like it. So, this gives them a fear of technology (also known as technophobia).
For instance, after the invention of the bicycle, the demand for it rose during the 1890s. However, many people became cautious of it. They were anxious about how this new piece of transportation technology will affect society. Some tried to link the bicycle with a rise in cases of psychopathy, particularly in ladies. Physicians (doctors) additionally wrote such activity was dangerous to women’s health.
But, today, it’s incredible to imagine that people were that worried over a bicycle.
Modern fears
Consider several items that people also worry about today. For example, many people worry that robots will take our jobs, while technology such as EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) will attack and bring society to a halt. Some people also think that 5G technology is harmful to society. So, this fear is a tendency that humans have had for hundreds of years.
Throughout the ages, individuals have feared everything from forks to the press. Once English mill employees called Luddites smashed textile machinery as a protest. The Luddites themselves were actually not significantly anti-technology. That concern could be a traditional response deeply deep-seated in humans.
However, despite these common fears, many older people today are feeling more confident about technology and its potential in our daily lives and health than ever before.
