Tea from Assam sells for a record ₹50,000 per kg

Tea from Assam sells for a record ₹50,000 per kg2 kg of Manohari gold tea (a kind of tea) from Assam has sold for a record ₹50,000 per kg at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC). This is the highest price at which in any auction centre in India.

Manohari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh district, Assam grows this tea.
 	Mr Rajan Lohia owns the tea garden.
 	They produced about 5 kg of the Manohari Gold tea, out of which they could sell 2 kg at the auction.

Mangilal Maheshwari of Sourabh Tea Traders bought the record-breaking tea.

Manohari gold tea breaks the record held by Arunachal Pradesh's Golden Needles tea. Last year they had sold the Golden Needles tea for ₹40,000 a kg.

Gold tea

Gold tea is named so because it has a golden tint when brewed.
 	Mr Lohia said that about 6 kg of tea buds went into producing a kg of the Manohari gold tea.
 	Gold tea is produced in the period of May-June, depending on weather conditions.
 	The Manohar tea estate grows the gold tea under the best of conditions and it is handmade.

Tea producers grow tea and produce tea in tea gardens. Then, they auction off large quantities of tea at tea auctions which happens a few times in a year. After buying the tea at auctions, companies package it and finally, sell it to us.
