The world’s first website is still runningTim Berners-Lee created the first website in the world in 1991. It is still running. You can visit it at info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/ TheProject.html. However, it has been regularly updated after its launch. So, images of its earliest versions were not duly saved.

Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist, invented the World Wide Web (WWW). He invented it in 1989 when he was working under CERN. CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world.

Tim Berners-Lee wrote the first proposal for the global WWW net in March 1989. After that, his second proposal was in 1990. These had the principal ideas behind the idea of the web. He then developed the code for his net server on a NeXT computer and created the first website.

Berners-Lee's invention was first used to share information among scientists in universities and institutes around the world.

Today, the first website is still running. The images of its earliest versions are believed to not exist. However, a scientist named Paul Jones claimed in 2013 that Berners-Lee gave him the content.
