We had read about the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban. As it tightens its control, the US as well as many Afghans are rushing to leave the country.

The US has said that 31 August 2021 is its deadline to completely pull out of the country. The Taliban has said that all foreign evacuations from the country must be completed by then and there will be no extension. The Taliban has also urged Afghan people to not leave the country. However, but huge crowds still remain outside Kabul airport hoping to flee the Taliban regime.

US forces say that they have now helped evacuate 70,700 people since 14 August.

The leader of a resistance movement to the Taliban has vowed to never surrender and keep fighting the Taliban. But it says it is open to negotiations with the Taliban. Former vice-president Amrullah Saleh is also part of this movement.

Five members of an all-girl Afghan robotics team arrived in Mexico on Tuesday evening to a warm welcome. Mexico has promised to help Afghan women and children.

Concern for women and children

This is an especially important topic in the current Afghanistan situation. The Taliban, during its previous rule, had stopped girls from schools and women from working. While this time they say they will not do so, people all over the world are still worried about women’s rights and girls’ education in Afghanistan.
