This dinosaur was the largest-ever to roam Australia

This dinosaur was the largest-ever to roam AustraliaIn 2006 and 2007, scientists found the fossils of a large dinosaur in Australia. It turns out this dino was the largest-ever to roam Australia!

Scientists named the dinosaur Australotitan cooperensis or Cooper for short. It lived 92 million to 96 million years ago in southwest Queensland.

Cooper was a type of dinosaur called a sauropod. They had long necks and tails, four legs, and ate plants. Moreover, sauropods also belong to a group of huge dinosaurs called titanosaurians.

This animal was about 80 to 100 feet long and 16 to 21 feet tall at its hip. It weighed between 25 and 81 tons (1 ton = 1000 kg). For example, an African elephant (the world's largest land animal today) weighs about 6 tons.

Scientists believe that Cooper is one of the 15 largest dinosaurs ever found in the world. They took a lot of time to confirm because they had to carefully compare the bones to other dinosaurs too.

Moreover, when Cooper lived in Queensland, the land was still connected to Antarctica. So, this means that such huge animals like him could be also found in Antarctica in the future.

Today, sauropods are one of the most well-known groups of dinosaurs. Hence, you can see them in many films and cartoons.
