Tokyo Olympics comes to an end with grand closing ceremony

The 17-day Tokyo Olympics in Japan came to an end on 8 August 2021. After a lot of concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic and the delay of one year, the Games went off successfully.
The closing ceremony turned out to be grand and everyone seemed relaxed and enjoyed themselves. At the closing ceremony, Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia carried the Indian flag into the Tokyo stadium.
Overall, India won 7 medals at the Tokyo Olympics. This is India’s best performance at the Olympics. Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian gold medallist in athletics. He also became only the second Indian individual gold medallist after Abhinav Bindra in 2016.
With their excellent performance at the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian men’s hockey team is now ranked third in the world. The Indian women’s hockey team also reached the eighth rank in the world.
World Medal Tally at the Tokyo Olympics
The United States topped the medal tally chart with 39 gold medals while China grabbed second place with 38 gold medals. Japan finished in third position with 27 gold medals; this is its best performance at the Olympics. India also finished at the 48th position.
The next Summer Olympics will be held in Paris, France in 2024.
Paralympic Games
After successfully hosting the Olympics, now, Tokyo is all set to organize the Paralympic Games from 24 August 2021. 4,400 athletes from all over the world will take part in the Paralympic games, out of which 54 players will represent India in 9 games.
What are the Paralympic Games?
The Paralympic Games or Paralympics are the Olympics for athletes with different disabilities. There are both Winter and Summer Paralympic Games. Since 1988, the Paralympic Games have been held immediately after the Olympic Games.
