Tokyo Olympics

India won its fourth medal today – a bronze medal in hockey. The Indian men’s hockey team won the bronze after defeating world champion Germany. This is India’s first Olympic medal in hockey after 41 years! With this win, India now has won overall 12 medals in men’s hockey at Olympics.

Wrestler Ravi Dahiya also beat Nurislam Sanayev and entered the finals. His win has assured India of another medal. Deepak Punia will also play for bronze. Adding to it, golf player Aditi Ashok is in second place after round 1 in the women’s individual stroke play. She tied for second place with the US’ Nelly Korda. 

Moreover, India’s Sandeep Kumar, Rahul and KT Irfan finished the 20km race walk at 23rd, 47th and 51st positions respectively.

Unfortunately, Indian wrestler, Vinesh Phogat faced defeat against Vanesa Kaladzinskya in the 53kg competition. Moreover, Anshu Malik also lost the 57kg round against Russia’s Valeria Koblova.

World medal tally at the Tokyo Olympics

China continues to top the list with 32 gold medals, while the US is in second place with 27 gold medals. Japan is in the third position with 21 gold medals. Currently, India is at the 66th position with 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Players across a wide range of ages are taking part in the Tokyo Olympics. 13-year-old Japanese Momiji Nishiya became the youngest player to win gold in women’s street event for skateboarding. And in men’s skateboarding events, one of the participants is 46-year-old Rune Glifberg from Denmark.
