UGC issues guidelines for higher education institutes
University Grants Commission(UGC) has drafted guidelines for transforming higher education institutions. These guidelines are drafted with respect to National Education Policy 2020.
The guidelines encourage multidisciplinary higher education institutes. It will also offer a diverse range of subjects. When the guidelines will be approved, a dual degree from IIT Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru University will also become a possibility.
UGC guidelines
University Grants Commission(UGC) has issued the following guidelines for higher education. If UGC guidelines are approved, the following features can be implemented:
- Higher education institutes will have various ways to adopt multidisciplinary courses.
- Colleges that are affiliated with universities can elevate their status to the colleges that award degrees and they can offer multidisciplinary education.
- Colleges can offer dual degrees.
- According to the UGC guidelines, once the students will be admitted to the college, the students will be able to complete the first-degree art at the host institute. The students can attain the second degree at the partnering institutions without going through the admission process again.
- The draft guidelines also point towards the evolution of research and innovation.
- According to the UGC guidelines, the colleges have the option to form groups of multiple subjects.
The UGC guidelines ensure that the colleges offer multidisciplinary programmes and can provide other educational benefits. Moreover, University Grants Commission(UGC) will pick colleges and universities that can transform into higher education institutes.
