Weather: Floods take a toll on Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal

The heavy rains of the monsoon have affected different parts of the country. Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Mumbai have been especially affected by floods.
Madhya Pradesh experienced heavy rainfall in the Gwalior-Chambal regions, especially the Shivpuri and Sheopur districts. These cities experienced excessive rainfall of 800 mm in the last 24 hours. Authorities have rescued about 1600 people from the flooded areas. The NDRF (National Disaster Response Fund) and SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) teams are working to rescue people as around 200 villages are still waiting for help. Moreover, the army has also been called in for rescue operations in Sheopur, Shivpuri, Gwalior and Datia districts.
In West Bengal, heavy rains have badly affected six districts. They are The Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Paschim Medinipur, Hooghly, Howrah and 24 Parganas. Officials reported that the discharge of water from Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) dams has also affected the above-mentioned districts. Approximately, 15 people died due to heavy rains and lakhs of people are left homeless.
