Recommended for Secondary Grades

India weather update

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), heatwaves will be experienced in Rajasthan and Delhi.

Weather warnings by IMD

Heatwaves are periods of extremely hot weather.

  • IMD has issued a red alert for Rajasthan for Monday, followed by an orange alert for Tuesday.
  • An orange alert is issued for Delhi, asking the residents to be prepared to face the heat waves.
  • Punjab and Haryana are also likely to experience heat waves.

This situation will improve from 12 April, as a western disturbance (storm in the Mediterranean sea that brings winter rain in some parts of India) is approaching North-West India around 12th April.

Rainfall

Heavy rainfall is expected in Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura on 13-14 April. The rainfall is due to the influence of southwestern winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeastern states.

A cyclonic circulation over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and areas of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu can result in heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu on 11th April and on Kerala on 13-14 April 2022.

What is cyclonic circulation?

Cyclonic circulation is an atmospheric motion in the same direction as of planet’s rotation.

In the North East mountains, rains are expected due to the cyclonic circulation from the Bay of Bengal. Daytime and Nighttime temperatures are expected to be extreme until late April.
