What is the weather like on other planets?
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
The weather on planet Earth is different from place to place. Some parts are very cold and some very hot. But generally, Earth is a pleasant place to live in.
But how is the weather like on the other 7 planets in our solar system?
Mercury – It is the closest to the Sun. So, it is extremely hot here during the day but at night it’s freezing cold.
Venus – It is the second planet from the Sun but is the hottest! Venus has a thick atmosphere that traps the Sun’s heat, making the planet very very hot!
Mars – During the daytime, the weather can be as cool as wintertime on Earth. But at night, it becomes freezing cold.
Jupiter – It is the largest planet but is a gas giant (made up only of gas). Jupiter is a stormy planet. It even has a giant, wild storm (called the Great Red Spot) that has going on for more than 300 years.
Saturn – Saturn is also a gas giant. It is quite far from the Sun and so, has freezing weather.
Uranus – It is known as an ice giant and is freezing cold. Each of its seasons is 21 Earth years long!
Neptune – The last planet is also an ice giant. Being so far away from the Sun, it has freezing weather. Neptune also has extremely strong winds and storms.
So, it seems Earth is the best option we have!
