Wimbledon crowd applauds creators of COVID-19 vaccine

Wimbledon crowd applauds creators of COVID-19 vaccineOn Monday, tennis fans loudly applauded the creators of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. They were there to watch a match on the first day of the Wimbledon tennis tournament in England.

The AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine was created by the company AstraZeneca, along with scientists at Oxford University. It is known as Covishield in India.

Dame Sarah Gilbert and her colleague Sir Andrew Pollard of Oxford University were key scientists who worked on the vaccine. They were at Wimbledon to watch the match when the announcer said they were present. Then, the whole crowd clapped and cheered for them. The announcer also thanked many other people for their efforts in the fight against COVID-19 including the late Captain Tom Moore.

Of course, the pandemic is still happening and we need to be careful. But without the work of scientists who have worked hard to develop many COVID-19 vaccines, events like Wimbledon would not be possible.

Till now, the world has reported about 18 crore cases of COVID-19. The US, India and Brazil have reported the highest number of cases.
