- World Emoji Day is celebrated on 17 July as it is the date that appears on the iPhone’s calendar emoji. Google’s calendar emoji has also been changed to display on 17 July.
- People believe that Jeremy Burge started this day. He is the founder of Emojipedia.
- Japanese mobile phones were the first ones to use emojis. Eventually, its popularity spread across the world. The word ’emoji’ comes from the Japanese words ‘e’ (çµµ meaning “picture”) + ‘moji’ (æ–‡å— meaning “character”).
- Every year, Apple announces new emojis on this day.
- The use of emoticons has changed the way people talk to each other in a big way in this day and age. People use emojis in text messages to show how they feel or express how they are feeling.
