World Youth Chess Championship: Praggnanandhaa wins gold, India wins 7 medals

World Youth Chess Championship: Praggnanandhaa wins gold, India wins 7 medals14-year-old R. Praggnanandhaa won gold in the U-18 category at the recent World Youth Chess Championship held in Mumbai. The World Youth Chess Championship was held from 1st to 13th October.

A draw in the 11th and final round against Valentin Buckels (Germany) gave him 9 points, winning the gold.
 	Praggnanandhaa is the world’s second youngest Grandmaster. He was also the under-8 champion in 2013 and the under-10 winner in 2015.

India also won a record seven medals at the championship.

In addition to Praggnanandhaa's gold, India won 3 silver and 3 bronzes across six competitions in three age-groups.
 	The silver medals came from Vantika Agarwal (girls’ under-18), S. L. Srihari (under-14) and Divya Deshmukh (girls’ under-14). The bronze medals went to Aronyak Ghosh (under-16), M. Sreeshwan (under-14) and Rakshitta Ravi (girls’ under-14).

Russia finished top in the medals tally with five medals. India won more medals overall but Russia won three gold medals to India's one.
